Conquer Kilimanjaro: 8-Day Lemosho Route Adventure (Arrival & Departure Included)

 

Arrival Day

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) greeted by a friendly SafariBando representative.
  • Transfer comfortably to your accommodation at Endelea Lodge in Moshi (overnight stay with breakfast).
  • Relax and enjoy amenities like a swimming pool and Wi-Fi.
  • Attend an evening briefing with experienced managers to ensure you're prepared for the climb.

 

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,785m)

  • Depart Moshi for a 3-hour drive through villages to Londorossi Gate in Kilimanjaro National Park.
  • Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and challenging muddy trails. Gaiters and poles are recommended.
  • Your guide shares insights on local flora and fauna as you hike 3-4 hours, gaining 396m in elevation, to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
  • Expect cooler temperatures at this higher altitude.

 

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira I Camp (3,504m)

  • After breakfast, embark on a steeper ascent, leaving the rainforest behind.
  • Hike for 4-6 hours, gaining 719m in elevation, and enjoy widening views reaching the rim of the Shira Plateau.
  • Temperatures will continue to drop as you reach Shira I Camp.

 

Day 3: Shira I Camp – Shira Hut (3,895m)

  • Explore the vast Shira Plateau, a full-day acclimatization adventure.
  • Enjoy gentle walks eastward towards Kibo's peak and across the plateau meadows.
  • Shira Hut, located on the base of Lent Hills, offers various acclimatization walks.
  • Shira is one of Earth's highest plateaus.

 

Day 4: Shira Hut – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp (3,986m)

  • Today's hike focuses on acclimatization, though you end at a similar elevation as you began.
  • Ascend a ridge from the Shira Plateau, passing the Kibo peak junction before continuing southeast towards the Lava Tower (Shark's Tooth).
  • Descend to Barranco Camp after reaching the second junction leading to the Arrow Glacier.

 

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,034m)

  • Hike a steep ridge up the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley.
  • This section joins the Mweka Trail and offers stunning views of your crew's skill on the wall.
  • Overnight rest at Karanga Camp.

 

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,662m)

  • Continue your ascent towards Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit with diverse summit views.
  • An early dinner and rest prepare you for the summit night push.
  • Enjoy the last night on the mountain at Barafu Camp.

 

Day 7: Summit Day - Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descent to Mweka Camp (3,106m)

  • An early morning (midnight to 2 AM) marks the exciting start of your summit attempt.
  • This is the most demanding part, both mentally and physically.
  • Ascend through scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim, witnessing a magnificent sunrise (faster hikers may see it from the summit).
  • Continue for 1 hour on a snow-covered trail to reach the pinnacle - Uhuru Peak (5,895m)!
  • Savor this once-in-a-lifetime achievement, capturing photos and enjoying the moment.
  • Descend to Barafu for lunch and a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
  • Gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended for the loose gravel and volcanic ash terrain.
  • Celebrate your accomplishments and enjoy your last evening on the mountain.

 

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi (Departure)

  • After breakfast, participate in a farewell ceremony with your crew.
  • Descend for 3-4 hours to Mweka Gate, receiving your summit certificates. Expect warmer, wetter, and steeper terrain. Gaiters and poles are again recommended.
  • A vehicle will transfer you back to your Moshi hotel (around 30 minutes).
  • Enjoy a well-deserved hot shower, dinner, and celebrate your triumph before departure.

 

Departure Day

  • Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel.
  • Check out by 11:00 AM (late check-out options may be available for an additional fee).
  • Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departing flight.
